What is the Neuro-State Hat?
A smart wearable cap that measures brain activity (EEG), heart metrics (PPG), and movement (IMU) and sends data to the companion app.
Who is it for?
Consumers interested in focus, relaxation, and performance; students; researchers and developers; wellness enthusiasts.
Is it a medical device?
No — it’s not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
What’s in the box?
The hat, charging cable, and a quick-start guide. If anything is missing, contact support with your order number.
Do I need gel or sticky electrodes?
No — the hat uses dry sensors designed for comfortable wear.
Which sizes do you offer?
We offer sizes Large, Medium, and Small.
Can multiple people use one hat?
Yes. Clean the contact points between users and create separate app profiles for each.
Compatibility & Connectivity
Which devices and OS versions are supported?
Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS.
What wireless standard is used?
Bluetooth 4.2 (Classic & Low Energy).
Do I pair in the OS settings or in the app?
Use the pair button in the app. If you previously paired in OS settings, “Forget” the device there, then pair it in the app.
Can I use it with two devices at once (e.g., phone + laptop)?
No — connect to one device at a time. You can switch by disconnecting and pairing with the other.
Will it work without an internet connection?
Yes, for local sessions. Some features (cloud backup, updates) need the internet.
Account & app
Do I need an account?
Yes — it enables syncing, backups, and support.
Where do I download the app?
Add links to Google Play/App Store and your desktop app page.
Can I use the hat without the app?
You need the app for setup, pairing, updates, and viewing metrics.
Can I export my data?
Yes — export from the app (CSV/JSON). See Data & Privacy below.
Can I share sessions with a coach or clinician?
Yes — export and share files, or invite them to view a shared report if you enable that feature.
Sensors, accuracy & features
What does EEG measure here?
Electrical activity at the scalp (8 channels). The app estimates states like focus/relaxation using algorithms.
What does PPG measure?
Heart rate, HRV, oxygen saturation (SpO₂), and respiration rate derived from optical signals.
What does the IMU track?
Motion/gestures with a 9-axis sensor.
How accurate is it?
Consumer-grade device optimized for at-home use. Accuracy depends on fit, placement, movement, and lighting (for PPG).
Does hair affect EEG readings?
Hair can reduce contact. Part hair under the sensors and tighten the strap to improve contact quality.
Are there live dashboards or coaching prompts?
Yes — the app shows live metrics and can provide on-screen prompts during sessions.
Can I label sessions (study, meditation, sport)?
Yes — use tags/notes before or after a session.
Battery & charging
How long does the battery last?
Up to ~4.5 hours of continuous use under typical conditions.
How long to fully charge?
About 2–3 hours with the supplied cable and a 5V adapter.
Can I use it while charging?
For safety and signal quality, we recommend using it on battery power only.
Is the battery replaceable?
Yes — available via our Repair & Service program.
The hat won’t charge — what do I do?
Try another USB adapter/cable, check the port for debris, charge at room temp, and confirm the charge indicator. If still failing, contact support.
Fit, comfort & care
How should the hat fit?
Center the crown, adjust the strap snug (not tight), and ensure sensors touch skin.
How do I improve EEG contact with thick hair?
Part hair where sensors touch (front/top), gently press and re-seat, then run the app’s Contact Quality test.
Can I wash the hat?
Wipe sensors with a soft, slightly damp cloth or alcohol wipe; avoid soaking electronics. Share your official cleaning steps.
Can I exercise with it?
Light activity is fine; heavy sweating or rain may degrade signals. Keep it dry.
Can I wear glasses or headphones with it?
Yes — ensure they don’t press sensors off your scalp.
Getting started (setup)
First setup steps?
Charge the hat → install the app → create account → power on → pair in the app → run Contact Quality → start a test session.
Firmware updates?
Keep battery >50%, keep the app in the foreground, stay within 1–2 m. If an update stalls, retry; use Recovery mode if prompted. Support can help.
How do I know it’s working?
The app shows live status: Bluetooth connected, firmware up-to-date, and contact quality Good.
Using the app (daily use)
How long should sessions be?
Most users start with 5–20 minutes and adjust to their goal.
Can I run background music or meditation audio?
Yes — the app continues recording while audio plays.
Can I bookmark moments in a session?
Yes — use markers to note events you want to review later.
Can I combine EEG + PPG + IMU in one session?
Yes — that’s the default. You can disable streams if needed in settings.
Data & privacy
What data is collected?
EEG, PPG, IMU signals; basic account info (e.g., email); and app usage needed for functionality.
Do you sell my data?
No.
Do you share personal data with third parties?
Not without your consent. Research data is shared only in anonymized form, if you opt-in.
Where is my data stored?
Encrypted in transit and at rest. Personal info is stored separately from raw biosignals.
Can I export or delete my data?
Yes — export in CSV/JSON from the app. You can request account/data deletion from the app or support.
Is it GDPR/CCPA compliant?
We follow applicable privacy laws and provide access, export, and deletion controls.
Can I use the hat offline with no cloud?
Yes for local sessions; cloud sync is optional.
Troubleshooting — connectivity
The hat won’t pair. What now?
Charge >20% → “Forget” in OS Bluetooth → toggle Bluetooth off/on → pair inside the app → grant permissions. If still stuck, try a second phone and contact support.
My connection drops mid-session.
Keep the phone within 1–2 m, disable aggressive battery savers, and avoid crowded 2.4 GHz environments.
Android-specific tips?
Grant Location permission (Bluetooth requirement), disable battery optimization for the app, and leave the app in the foreground during updates.
iOS-specific tips?
Enable the app’s Bluetooth permission; keep the app in the foreground during updates.
Troubleshooting — signal & data
The app shows “Poor” contact quality
Re-seat the hat, part hair under sensors, clean contacts, move away from power bricks, and rerun the test.
I’m not seeing EEG data
Check contact quality and session type, ensure the hat is connected, then restart the session.
PPG shows no reading
Ensure skin contact at the optical sensor, reduce movement and bright ambient light, and retry.
IMU looks off or drifts
Run Recalibrate in settings; keep the hat stable during calibration.
The firmware update failed
Battery >50%, phone near the hat, try again; if it repeats, follow Recovery mode steps in the app or contact support.
Orders, shipping & taxes
Where do you ship?
List supported countries/regions and typical delivery times.
Will I pay import duty or GST/VAT?
Depends on your country’s rules. Duties/taxes are shown at checkout where possible.
Can I change my shipping address after ordering?

30 days from delivery in original condition with all items.

What’s covered?
1-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

Accidental damage, misuse, wear and tear, and unauthorized modifications/repairs.
How do I make a warranty claim?
Contact support with proof of purchase and serial number to receive an RMA.
Will my replacement have a new warranty?
Repairs/replacements are covered by the remainder of your original warranty or 90 days, whichever is longer.
Repairs & service (post-warranty)
Can you repair my hat after the warranty?
Yes — paid repair, battery replacement, or discounted out-of-warranty replacement.
Is there a diagnostic fee?
A non-refundable diagnostic fee may apply and is credited to the repair if you proceed.
How long do repairs take?
Diagnosis in 24–48 hours after we receive it; most repairs finish in 5–7 business days depending on parts.
Safety & environment
Is it safe to wear daily?
Yes, when used as directed. Avoid using if the device or cable is damaged or wet.
Any environmental limits?
Use and charge at room temperature; avoid rain, high heat, and high humidity.
Can I use it with implants or pacemakers?
Consult your physician before using any wireless device near implants.
Can children use it?
Not designed for children under 13. Teen use should be supervised by a guardian.
